In an operational context, it is essential to defend against an assailant (stop the attack) so as to be in a position to apply control and restraint techniques. Existing control and restraint courses do not train the officer to defend against an assailant. This means the officer must rely on martial arts or other forms of non-accredited training to make the initial defence. All too often non-accredited techniques have unacceptable
results for both the officer and the assailant.
Graduates of this course will be awarded a Statement of Attainment of the Nationally Recognised unit of competency; CPPSEC3013A Control persons using empty hand techniques
